In my painting, I explore the poignant theme of loss of Chinese culture through symbolic imagery. Central to the composition is a Chinese Opera Singer, (dan).
Her expression convey the pride of Chinese culture and sorrow of a vanishing tradition. The singer wears traditional costume, with a phoenix crown. Her left sleeve contains a dragon pattern while her right embodies Chinese architecture. Surrounding her are peonies, which transitions into a gloomy reality of elements representing vanishing. Through these elements, the painting honours Chinese tradition while confronting the somber reality of its erosion.
