At the Hawker Centre
Digital
16.5 x 22″
My digital artwork explores the vibrant hawker culture, a significant part of my life and many Singaporeans. Inspired by countless meals at hawker centres, I aimed to capture their lively, communal spirit. The composition focuses on brightly lit stalls as the central feature, set against a cool, dark background to emphasize their importance. In the foreground, blurred figures suggest movement, reflecting the constant flow of people, while framing the busy stalls in the midground. I used contrasting tones to highlight the energy of the scene and the vibrant atmosphere of these spaces. This piece embodies the unique, bustling essence of hawker centres — places filled with life, diversity, and a sense of community that remains a key part of Singapore’s cultural landscape.
