Rules and Regulations

1. Eligibility

a. 13-19 Art Prize (“Competition”), organised by TRCL, is open to youths between 13 and 19 years of age. (Born between 1 January 2006 – 31 December 2012).

    • Open Art Category: Available only youth residing in Singapore
    • Digital Art Category: Open to youth residing in Southeast Asia

b. Participants must enter the competition as individuals.
Team/Collaborative effort is not permitted.

c. Participants are required to complete the following:

    • Registration Form
    • Acquire consent of their parents or legal guardian to participate and submit the Consent Form and;
    • Submit their artwork via the Open Art Category Artwork Submission Form and/or the Digital Art Category Artwork Submission Form.

d. Artwork submitted must be original and should not be created more than two (2) years prior to the submission date.

e. Artworks that have been exhibited, submitted for other competition, offered for sale, and/or published should not be submitted.

f. Participation in this Competition is free.

g. All Artwork submission should not contain any obscene, vulgar or indecent reference which may offend or denigrate any race or religion.

h. Submitting an entry into this Competition signifies acceptance of the rules and regulations of the Competition.

2. Specifications of Entries

a. Each participant can submit up to two (2) entries in any medium.

In the Registration Form, participants should indicate the category that matches their submission. Participants submitting digital art (e.g.: digital illustration) should select the Digital Art Category.

For example, if you are submitting both a non-digital and a digital piece, you must select both the Open Art Category and the Digital Art Category during registration.

b. Below are some guidelines for entries that falls under these similar mediums:

OPEN ART CATEGORY

  • Artworks must be physically executed, with a maximum dimension of 180cm x 180cm. Irregular shapes within these dimensions are acceptable.
  • All two-dimensional artworks must be either on a canvas frame or framed up and can be created using any medium, including but not limited to acrylic, calligraphy, charcoal, colour pencil, crayon, markers, mixed media, oil, and watercolour.
  • All submitted artworks must be completely dry and in a stable condition to ensure proper handling and display.
  • Embossed artworks must not exceed 5cm in thickness.
  • Three-dimensional artworks must measure between 15cm x 15cm x 15cm (minimum) and 40cm x 40cm x 40cm (maximum), with a weight limit of 3kg.
  • Exploration of any materials are welcomed.
  • Ceramics works must be fired and glazed.
  • Artworks in a series are accepted.
  • Include an image of your artwork submission (in JPEG/ PNG, maximum 10MB), and a synopsis (maximum 100 words) via the Online Artwork Submission Form.

PHOTOGRAPH PRINTS

  • Photograph prints based on any theme must be between 20.3cm x 25.4cm (8R – minimum), and 30.5cm x 38.1cm (12R – maximum).
  • Framing of artwork is permissible provided it fulfils the dimensions stipulated
  • Submitted photograph prints should be mounted onto a white board.
  • Glossy finish is recommended for submissions.
  • Digital manipulation is not permitted except for exposure adjustments, colour grading, dodge & burn, and changes to the overall composition of the work.
  • Artwork entries with further digital manipulation are to be registered under the Digital Art Category instead.
  • Include an image of your artwork submission (in JPEG/ PNG, maximum 10MB), and a synopsis (maximum 100 words) via the Online Artwork Submission Form.

Artworks that fall under the Open Art Category are to be submitted via the Open Art Category Artwork Submission Form.

DIGITAL ART CATEGORY

  • Any computer software may be used to create the artwork (digital illustration, collage, pixel art, fractal art, but cannot be wholly generated by AI.
  • Use of generative AI tools in Digital Art Artworks enhanced or created with the assistance of generative AI tools are now acceptable, provided they are based on the participants’ original work.
  • Participants using AI must declare the following:
    – List the tools or technologies used in the creation process.
    – Explain what the AI tools or technologies were used for during the artwork’s creation
    – Share the prompts used in the AI tools or technologies.
    – Describe how the AI-generated output was incorporated into your final artwork.

– Adobe Firefly

What it was used for
– To give me ideas for the background

The prompts used
– A futuristic, sci-fi-inspired background with sleek, metallic surfaces and neon lights, offering a cutting-edge feel for innovative or tech-forward products

How the output was used in my work
– To help me get some inspiration on what futuristic and sci-fi visual elements can look like for my artwork.

  • Artworks must be in 300dpi resolution and must not exceed 2100 x 2100 pixels.
  • Artwork should be submitted in JPEG, GIF or MPEG with the size not exceeding 10MB.
  • Participants are required to submit three (3) screenshot of their work-in-progress (25%, 50%, and 75%).
  • Include a 100 words (maximum) synopsis and reference sources (if any) are to be included to elaborate on the artwork.

Artworks that fall under the Digital Art Category are to be submitted via the Digital Art Category Artwork Submission Form.

3. Prizes

a. Winners will receive a prize in the form of cash or vouchers (to be confirmed).

b. Winners will be updated on the website and contacted by September 2025 via email.

c. More details on the award ceremony and exhibition of the winning artworks will be shared at a later day.

4. Judging

a. Artworks will be judged based on concept, creativity/ originality, aesthetic quality (design, composition and colour/tones) and technical skills.

b. Entries will be judged by a panel of reputable artists, art connoisseurs, art curators and other creative professionals.

c. The judges’ decision is final, and no correspondence shall be entered into.

d. TRCL reserves the right not to award any of the stipulated prizes should entries fail, in the judges’ opinion, to meet the required standards.

5. Copyright & Intellectual Property

a. All artworks submitted must be original works of the participants and they must be the owners of the artworks.

b. Participants will be responsible for satisfying copyright requirements should any part of their artworks have quote(s) or reproduction(s) from other sources.

c. Each participant agrees to grant TRCL a worldwide, perpetual, royalty-free, non-exclusive right and license to use, exhibit and reproduce the image of his/her artwork in any medium or format including digital for any purpose connected to the Competition.

6. Ownership & Offer of Winning Artwork for Fundraising

a. All winning artworks, including all documents and materials submitted, shall become the property of TRCL, and TRCL reserves the right to retain all winning artworks and any supporting documents.

b. All participants of the winning artworks shall grant TRCL the exclusive rights to offer their artworks for sale to raised funds for The Business Times Budding Artists Fund (BT BAF). Even if sold, the artists will retain the moral and copyright over their artworks.

c. Any artwork that is not sold by the start of the 2026 edition of the 13-19 Art Prize may either be donated to our event partners and collaborator or returned to the artists. If the latter applies, we will inform the respective artists, and they will have a month to collect the work from the time of our notice.

d. Collection details will be communicated to the participants via email after the announcement of results.

7. Return of Entries

a. With the exception of the winning artworks, all other submitted entries must be collected at 10Square located at 181 Orchard Road, #10-01 Orchard Central, Singapore 238896.

b. Any entries (with the exception of prize-winning works) which are not collected within one (1) month of the announcement of results shall become the property of TRCL and may be retained, utilised, or otherwise disposed of in whatever way TRCL deems appropriate.

8. Risk and Responsibilities

a. While TRCL will exercise all due care in the handling and protection of the artworks, TRCL shall not be held responsible for any loss or damage whatsoever or however caused to any artwork submitted to them.

9. Privacy

a. The personal data held by TRCL shall be kept confidential in adherence to IMDA PDPA guidelines.

b. All participants consent that TRCL may use his/her personal data for the following purposes:

  • To administer the competition, including contacting winners regarding the exhibition and sale of their artworks to raise funds for BT BAF.
  • To contact and provide information regarding future competition via email.

10. Organiser’s Right

a. TRCL reserves the right to amend the above rules and regulations from time to time, and modify, cancel and suspend the Competition at its sole discretion at any time.
