The Currents of History

This artwork showcases changes of Singapore throughout the years. Before, there were Samsui Women doing labour jobs, while today, women have more job opportunities and access to education. The satay seller cooking with care represents food in the past, which is contrasted with the modern, mass-produced fast food today. As the Chinese opera actress performs, people watch videos on handphones, representing the development of technology creating new forms of entertainment. I hope to show appreciation for culture and acknowledge the contributions of people who have built and shaped Singapore to where it is today, throughout the changing tides of history.
